Office Design: Advent of Modern Workplace Tenant Improvements
What are the driving forces for change in today’s workspace? The United States has shifted from manufacturing to a service based economy. But more importantly, the internet can be seen as having the greatest effect in today’s offices. The information highway is available at the touch of a finger in most any location.
Mobile services and devices make the ability to keep in touch an expectation. Keeping in touch is no longer the big ticket. Now days mobile computing makes dedicated offices a thing of the past for many.
And why not, office space is expensive. When does an office’s space generate revenue? It doesn’t, it’s the occupant or employee that really brings in the money. Of course your employees need places to work, but today more than ever before, workspaces have become an extension of today’s adaptability.
The Telework Coalition conducted a study that produced the following results:
• Only 11 of the top 100 US companies do not offer telecommuting
• Over 2/3 of all employees use wireless and mobile computing for work
• Over half of businesses state they have virtual workplaces
• Less than 10% of employees work at the corporate headquarters
So what does this all mean? Mobile connectivity is reducing the need for fixed office spaces. This is not to say the need for traditional offices has been eliminated.
Thinking Green
Some food for thought, exclusive work spaces account for close to 90% of tenant improvement work spaces yet they are only used less than 40% of the time. What a waste of valuable resources. What’s more green than finding solutions that reduce the wasted use (lack of use) of space.
It’s important to realize that flexible work spaces provide unique opportunities for today’s employer. Team spaces with movable furniture are simple ideas.
Now you have an incredible opportunity, create effective work spaces that reduce overhead costs and ultimately increase productivity. Increased productivity does not cost more for tenant improvement spaces. Get help from the best Tucson Architects. Give Jon a call at 520.577.7411 to see how we can work with you and your team.
